About
BLACK & BROWN BABIES AND BABY BIRTHERS ARE DYING at an alarming rate compared to other races. In North Carolina black and brown baby birthers are 3 - 5 times more likely to die from childbirth-related causes, US C-section rates are high, and perinatal mood disorders affect one in every five families. New reports show maternal health continues to trend in the wrong direction.

Ahimsa Childbirth Services was founded to combat these issues with unconditional pregnancy, postpartum, and partner support, advocacy, and education. The work we do promotes safe, strong, resilient birth communities. Our personalized approach paired with our rewards program changes negative attitudes, behaviors, and beliefs community members have about pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. The practices we teach strengthen social/emotional connections which promote positive birth and early relational health outcomes. And fitness and yoga classes help the maternal community develop habits of self-love/care and self-regulation.

Ahimsa is a Sanskrit word. It is one of the moral vows of yoga that translates to non-harming. To us, Ahimsa means making sure what we do is in harmony and not in harm to the families we support.
Our Mission
Combat racial disparities in infant & maternal morbidity and mortality with unconditional pregnancy, postpartum, and partner support, advocacy, and education.
